HVAC replacement
and second opinions.
A replacement proposal should explain how the system fits your home, what installation work is included, and why it is recommended. A second opinion is most useful when it examines those assumptions, not just the equipment price.

Bring the whole proposal
Share model numbers, included indoor and outdoor equipment, controls, installation scope, and warranty documents. Remove personal financial information before forwarding a quote. Ask whether the second-opinion visit is a document review, an on-site assessment, or both.
Ask how the equipment is sized
Ask how the heating and cooling load was determined, whether the duct system was evaluated, and what commissioning results will be documented. ENERGY STAR’s installation guidance identifies sizing, airflow, refrigerant charge, and duct performance as important installation considerations.
Reference: ENERGY STAR: HVAC Quality Installation. General guidance; equipment-specific advice requires an assessment.
Compare the work, then the total
Two proposals can include different electrical work, duct changes, controls, removal, permits, and startup checks. Use a side-by-side scope comparison before treating a lower total as a better offer. Use the quote comparison checklist.
Choose the system around your priorities
Tell the contractor whether your main concern is recurring repairs, comfort in particular rooms, noise, or operating cost. If you are considering a heat pump, ask for a home-specific assessment and local utility assumptions. Explore heat pump and furnace decisions. Ask us about the equipment options, project-specific pricing, and applicable written warranty terms. Financing availability is not advertised.
